Chuck Howe skied for the first time at Paradise on Mount Rainier as a teenager in the early 1940’s and followed his passion for the next 70 years. Chuck attended the College of Puget Sound (CPS) where he was member of the ski team. He helped CPS purchase and improve the Deep Creek Lodge (now Alta Crystal) for the school’s recreation program. Chuck and his classmates installed and operated a rope tow at Cayuse Pass for several winters.
In the late 40’s Chuck met his wife, Jane Creswell on the train to Milwaukee Ski Bowl. He and Jane started teaching together for Tacoma Ski School. They were among the first certified PNSIA Ski Instructors and went on to teach for the Fiorinis, Fopps, and Nagels. During the 1970’s he served on the board and as president of the Crystal Mountain Athletic Club while raising 3 active boys with skis on their feet. In his leisure years he enjoyed traveling world with Voulas’ Offshore Café ski team.
Chuck cherished being an Ancient Skier and the opportunity it gave him to maintain special friendships.
